Postage Overview

Standard Orders

Standard delivery orders will be processed and shipped within 1 - 4 working days.*

Express Orders

Express delivery orders placed by 2pm on weekdays will be processed and aim to be shipped the same day.*

We aim to deal with all orders as soon as possible, there are however, understandable exceptions from this:
  • Interruptions of service due to Public Holidays, Bank Holidays or extreme weather conditions.
  • Disruption to courier services outside of our control.

In addition, some products may be exempt from guaranteed express delivery, please check the product details for further information. We reserve the right to back-order any item unexpectedly out of stock at time of order being placed. Orders may be split or shipped from separate warehouse locations, this information will be provided on your shipping notifications.   • There is no charge for multiple parcel deliveries (UK only).
  • There is no restriction on weight of order.
  • There is no minimum order requirement.
  • Express Delivery orders are prioritised over Standard Delivery orders.

GB Mainland

We aim to dispatch all orders as fast as possible, although Standard Delivery orders may take up until the specified shipping time stated in the postage overview. Please allow for this when placing your order and ensure that you select the appropriate shipping method to receive your order in time.
  • Orders placed using Express Service references delivery for the next working day and not the next calendar day.
  • Orders placed before 2pm on a Friday can be expected to arrive no sooner than the following Monday.
  • Orders placed after 2pm on a Friday can be expected to arrive no sooner than the following Tuesday.
  • Orders placed using Express Service on a Saturday or Sunday will be processed the following Monday and can be expected to be delivered no sooner than the following Tuesday.
All express orders are shipped via DPD or Royal Mail on a next working day service. All standard parcels are shipped via DPD or Royal Mail depending on size or weight.
Mainland GB deliveries do not apply to the Scottish Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. The delivery rates and services to these areas can be found further below.
Our Express Delivery service by DPD is excellent for customers who require a timed, next working day delivery. You can watch the progress of your delivery on a real-time map on the day of delivery. As well as keeping you informed at every stage of the journey, you also have access to a suite of 'in-flight' options both on the day of delivery and the night before, allowing you select an alternative delivery date, opt for delivery to a nominated neighbour, have the parcel left in a safe place, or collect the parcel from your local DPD Pick-up Shop. Scottish Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands

There are no Express Delivery services available to these areas. As a standard DPD is used as our preferred courier to these locations and will be sent on a minimum 2 working day service.
Our list of affected postcodes for these areas are:
  • Mainland Postcodes: AB36-38, AB55-56, FK17-21, IV1-39, IV52-54, IV63, KW1-14, PA21-40, PH19-26, PH30-41, PH49-50.
  • Scottish Islands: HS1-9, IV40-51, IV55-56, KA27-28, KW15-17, PA20, PA41-49, PA60-78, PH42-44, ZE1-3.
  • Northern Ireland: BT
  • Isle of Man: IM
  • Isles of Scilly: TR
  • Isle of Wight: PO
  • Channels Islands: Your specified island should be selected as a separate shipping location in the “Countries” drop-box during the checkout process. Please note that any orders submitted as UK incorrectly will be cancelled.
  • BFPO: Unfortunately, our couriers do not deliver to British Forces Post Offices (BFPO) or HM Forces PO Box addresses.

International Overview

Because of the issues with worldwide & EU customs clearance tariffs, we have no choice but to suspend our services outside the UK & Northern Ireland with immediate effect. Any orders placed to these regions will be cancelled and refunded. We are working towards solving this issue but at this stage we do not know how long these services will be unavailable.

Returns & Cancellations

Returns Overview

In order to return goods, please email [email protected] with details of your name, contact phone number, order number, date of order, items to be returned and the reason for returning.
When returning goods to us, please enclose a copy of your invoice along with details of which items are being returned and the reason for returning. Refunds will only be processed upon receipt of goods and after inspection.
Our return address information is enclosed on your email correspondence and invoice.


If you wish to return unwanted products from your order then under the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013, Design A Cake is happy to refund you on the return of any item(s), providing they are unused and complete in all original packaging.
If you receive a damaged product, then under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, we are happy to refund you on the item(s) or offer you a replacement.
You must contact us within 14 calendar days of receipt of your goods and return the item within a further 14 days of contacting us.
If the goods are faulty, damaged or not fit for purpose then the cost of returning that item will be refunded. In all other circumstances, the return postage costs are payable by the customer.
Customised items are excluded from the distance selling regulations and cannot be returned. Due to food safety concerns, ready-made cakes are not subject to return unless considered faulty or not fit for purpose.

Under the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013, you have up until 14 days after delivery to cancel an order. Orders that have been dispatched or delivered can still be cancelled. You can arrange the return of a cancelled order (at your own cost) and upon receipt of the goods, we will refund for the goods and the cost of shipping where the goods are valued at £42 or more.
If you can cancel your order prior to processing for shipment we will refund the full cost of the order, including any shipping costs.
We aim to process orders as quickly and efficiently as possible, therefore we cannot guarantee that you will be able to cancel an order before it has been processed for shipment. We advise that you call our customer services immediately on +44 (0)191 4171572 to notify us of a cancellation.
Alternatively, you can refuse delivery of the order. In this instance, upon receipt of the goods, the cost of the return delivery from our courier will be deducted from the order refund. Please see our full terms and conditions for more information on your cancellation & return rights.
